The photograph of the flatten bicycle tire was shot in diffused light. It was a found object in the parking garage of my apartment complex. I wanted to capture the contrast of the tire against the once-white concrete wall and ground. I chose to shoot the photograph with the tire as the center of attention because the flatten tire would be more noticeable. This bicycle has been in the garage for a while and has remained in the same place; it reminded me of disappointments and shattered dreams.
The photograph of the staircase in diffused lighting (cloudy day) becomes an illusion of a ramp because of angle it is shot at. The image is actually taken from the top of a set of stairs. The depth of field is not very deep because I wanted the portion of the stairs closest to me to be the clearest and blur as it goes further away. I chose to shoot this image because I go up and down these stairs whenever I return home (Newport). I think that the photograph also represents going/traveling into the unknown.
The photograph of the wallet was taken in direct lighting, with the source from the window. I wanted to capture the contrast of the wall and the window sill. There is very little depth of field, and the detail in the window and screen are apparent in the print. The shadow that is cast on the wallet flows into the darkness of the walls surrounding it which creates a negative space that echoes the lighting of the window sill. The subject was actually a found object. I thought that it was an unusual placement so I shot it, and I am very impressed by the way that the photograph turned out.
