TOOLS: More Lighting!

This term has got me seeing lighting everywhere! Pretty cool lamps here:

It's hard to stand out amidst the product clutter of 2,700 other exhibitors, but rounding the corner to Australian exporter Designs Abroad's booth brought us to a darkened little nook where shone three of the purtiest lights we saw that day. Done by Australian company Electric Firefly, shown below are the Nimbus, the Sol and the Daisy:

“Full of Love and Full of Wonder”, Installation by Nike Savvas

This Installation considers the inventive ways in which contemporary artists use form, colour and space in sculpture. The works in the exhibition are essentially abstract and yet are richly imaginative. From a 28 metre long light sculpture inspired by natural patterns and Aboriginal motifs to an installation of hundreds of brightly coloured vibrating particles, this exhibition is both visually stimulating and thought-provoking.

Fish market lighting...

GAD: besiktas fish market, istanbul

located in one of istanbul’s most populated and diverse neighborhoods, besiktas is an
eclectic area with a village-like atmosphere that is in the process of urban renewal.
the besiktas fish market is located on a triangular site. it is an iconic venue where many
locals and visitors buy fresh fish daily. the construction of the old fish market was in very
poor shape and needed to be replaced.

the design solution was to maintain its iconic neighborhood presence, while also
reaffirming its welcoming feeling. GAD (global architectural development) designed
a triangular shaped concrete shell covering the entire site with large openings at street level.
the concrete shell provides a column-free interior space, optimizing the project’s programmatic
needs. the new design injects a contemporary and pragmatic solution, at once preserving
the fish market’s history.

“Aeolus,” Acoustic Wind Pavillion by Luke Jerram

Luke Jerram demonstrates that wind can create beauty with his last installation called “Aeolus.”
Inspired by traditional Aeolus harps, the “Aeolus” installation captures winds melody through its acoustic pavilion. It consists of a dome of tubes which, when the wind blows over them, create melodies similar to the way wind instruments do.

curiosity: kanebo sensai select spa

'kanebo sensai select spa' by curiosity

japanese firm curiosity has designed the first 'kanebo sensai select spa' located in
a 5 star hotel, in switzerland, for cosmetic company kanebo.

the design of the space is based on the lining of floating layers of koishimaru silk,
a core value of the 'sensai' brand. the soft glow of light gently removes the outside world,
layer by layer, to transform the mind and body. the waiting room in the center of the space
is designed as a 'cocoon', an oasis of tranquility surrounded by serene light.
