TC1000 Specifications & Design Brief





  • 1.0 Project - TC 1000

  • 2.0 Objective - TC 1000 is a compact, cart to support the use of tablet PC’s in healthcare. The system supports a tablet PC, a work surface and related supplies.


  • The objective of this project is to develop an affordable and compact cart to support a range of tablets using a standard 75mm or 100mm VESA mount. To develop a cart that visually conveys the quality and innovation of emerging tablet technology.

  • The carts will be sold through distributor and dealer channels and should be packaged for compact, pre-sale storage.


  • 3.0 "Look and Feel" - The cart should be compact and easy to use and should be compatible with the design of state of the art medical devices.

  • 4.0 Human Factors - The carts should support the use of a tablet for comfortable use from a standing position.

  • 6.0 Supplies Storage - A bin should be included for storage and securing of supplies.

  • 7.0 Work Surface - The cart should include a compact work surface that is large enough to hold charting documents.

  • 8.0 Security - Since the TC1000 will be used in public areas, the cart should provide a means of securing the tablet to the cart to discourage theft.

  • 9.0 Wheels and Casters - The stand should have four or five, fully rotating casters. The casters should be less than 4” in diameter. Two of the casters should lock for stability.

  • 10.0 Packaging - All packaging should meet German Green Dot standards for recyclability.

  • 11.0 Quantities - Annual quantities are estimated at 1,000 units per cart. Pricing should be based on production runs and releases of at least 250 units.

  • 12.0 Stability - The stand should conform to the 10 degree tilt test standards set forth in IEC 601-1-1.

  • 13.0 Handle - An integrated handle may be utilized for micropositioning and transport.

  • 14.0 Size - The approximate dimensions of the stand should be:

  • 15.0 Weight - The packaged weight of the stand should be 50 lbs or less.

  • 16.0 Weight Capacity - The stand should support up to 20 lbs. of equipment.

  • 17.0 Graphics - The Modo logo should be silk-screened on the stand in a visible area. A single color silk screen will be used. Modo will provide logo in Adobe Illustrator format.

  • 18.0 Color - The color of the stand should be compatible with a range of different tablets and medical devices.

  • 19.0 Finish - The stand should utilize a durable, powder coat finish to withstand cleaning agents.

  • 20.0 Tooling - Tooling is expected to be $75,000. Modo will  absorb the cost of all tooling.

  • 21.0 Assembly - The stand should be shipped partially assembled. Assembly should take no more than 15 minutes. Two page assembly instructions should be included.

  • 22.0 Configurations - The TC1000 stand will be offered in a single configuration.

  • 23.0 Accessories - No accessories will be offered with the cart.

  • 24.0 Cable Management - The stand should provide users with a means of organizing a single power cable and an AC power brick.

  • 25.0 Guaranty - Modo should guarantee the stand for 12 months from date of shipment.

  • 26.0 Target Cost - Modo has established a per unit cost target of USD $200.

  • 27.0 Prototypes - A single prototype will be delivered to Modo.
